Structural Tests Validate Boeing JSF X-32A Design
On Oct. 9, 1999 Boeing completed structural testing of its X-32 Joint Strike Fighter concept demonstrator aircraft in Palmdale, CA. A rigorous series of 34 separate tests simulating flight and landing conditions revealed no structural problems of any kind. The test results matched engineers' performance predictions. To minimize the cost and duration of the testing, Boeing utilized a re-usable test fixture and a state-of-the-art computer-driven "load-control" system that have proven successful in structural testing on the Boeing Space Station program and on Boeing commercial airplanes.
