A modified Boeing Blended Wing Body research aircraft, designated the X-48C, flew for the first time August 7, 2012, at NASA’s Dryden flight Research Center at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif. The remotely piloted X-48C aircraft took off at 7:56 a.m. Pacific time and climbed to an altitude of 5,500 feet (1,670 meters) before landing nine minutes later.
