HRB-1 Helicopter, a Military Version of the Vertol 107, Later Known as the CH-46 Sea Knight
The first production model of the HRB-1 Sea Knight twin-turbine helicopter undergoing testing in a tie-down rig at The Boeing Company's Vertol Division Flight Test Center in Philadelphia in 1962. The medium transport helicopter is the same basic aircraft as the Boeing Vertol 107-II. Special equipment, which outfits the HRB-1 for carrier-based assault transport operations, was incorporated into the 107 design. The aircraft is capable of delivering its payload to a spot 100 miles from its operating base at a cruising speed of 130 knots.
The U.S. Marine Corps retired the CH-46 Sea Knight in August 2015.
