Boeing Vertol 107 in Marine Corps Livery, a CH-46 Sea Knight, first designated as the HRB-1

For release Monday, April 24, 1961. This is a photo of a pre-production Boeing Vertol 107 helicopter, retouched to show the aircraft in the markings of the U.S. Marine Corps' HRB-1. The HRB-1, a military version of the Boeing Vertol 107, was recently declared winner of a U.S. Navy competition for a Marine Corps assault transport helicopter, and features of the new helicopter were revealed today. It will have a powered blade-folding system to enable the helicopter's rotor blades to be folded by the pilot from the cockpit in a fraction of the time previously required by several men to fold helicopter blades manually. The powered blade-folding will simplify storage of the aircraft aboard aircraft carriers. Also included in the HRB-1 is a new integrated loading system which will permit loading to be completed in as little as eight minutes, even under demanding field conditions.

The U.S. Marine Corps retired the CH-46 Sea Knight in August 2015.
