Final Assembly Begins on Another Boeing 787 Dreamliner
On Feb. 15, 2008 final assembly began on the second flight-test airplane for the all-new Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Loaded snugly into the first position of the 787 production system, workers in the Everett, Washington-based factory began joining together the fuselage sections and wings. All major joins take place in this position. While this was the second of six flight-test airplanes, this Dreamliner was actually the fourth on the production line. It followed two airplanes that were to be used for static and fatigue testing. At the time this photo was taken, production was also proceding on subsequent airplanes, with 21 airplanes in various stages of production. This number included the static and fatigue airplanes, which were not be delivered to customers.
