Boeing X-48C on Test flight^ February 2013

Boeing and NASA researchers believe the Blended Wing Body design offers such potential benefits as increased volume for carrying capacity, efficient aerodynamics for reduced fuel burn and reductions in noise due to propulsion integration options. Phantom Works is closely monitoring the research based on the Air Force’s interest in the BWB’s potential as a flexible, long-range, high-capacity military aircraft. NASA and the Air Force are interested in the potential benefits of the aircraft, including volume for payload capacity and significant reductions in both fuel burn and noise
