The goal was to develop a low-cost, multirole tactical aircraft for the U.S. Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps, and the UK's Royal Navy and Royal Air Force. Boeing built two concept demonstration aircraft that validated the company's approach to commonality; low-speed handling qualities and carrier approach; and short-takeoff-and vertical-landing, or STOVL, hover and transition between conventional and vertical flight. Although not selected for full-scale development of the JSF, the program yielded many advances in stealth technology and design and manufacturing methods. These achievements have been applied to other Boeing programs including the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and the X-45A Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle, or UCAV.BI46904 (BIV16_X-32A_01)Maximum size:720px × 480px (~87 MB)License type:Rights ManagedDuration:3m51sKeywords:2000s-adults-air to air-airplanes-ammunition/weapons systems-Boeing livery-clear skies-cockpit-mounted camera views-contrails-day-deserts-Edwards Air Force Base-exteriors-F/A-18 Hornet-fighters-first flights-flight testing-flying-flying in formation-full body views-ground crews-ground to air-historic production status-jets-KC-10 Extender-landing-male-military-military personnel-monoplanes-Palmdale-pilots-precision-prototypes-refueling-rolls-runways-sunshine-tarmac-technology demonstrators-testing-viewed from above-viewed from below-X-32 Joint Strike Fighter-X-32A Joint Strike FighterRelated Photo/Videos:View AllRelated Virtual folders:X-32 Joint Strike Fighter
