The 377 Stratocruiser 's seats represented 100,000 hours of research and testing. Engineers collected measurements from thousands of men and women before determining dimensions of Stratocruiser seats. The experimental seats were subjected not only to strength tests, but to comfort tests, under simulated flight conditions, by highly critical sitters weighing from 100 to 300. The seats weighed less than 38 pounds each. They included a newly developed chair-arm control panel so that passengers could adjust the seat, turn on a reading light, or call the stewardess.
