Based on customer interest, Boeing is developing a family of 747 derivatives for the large-airplane market. Boeing believes the 747X derivatives shown in this artist's rendering provide an elegant solution for the small 747-and-larger airplane market. At top is the Boeing 747-400X, which is the same size as today's 747-400 but flies farther or carries more cargo. The middle airplane depicts the 747X, which would join the longer-range 777-200 in flying more than 10,000 miles. The 747X Stretch in the foreground would seat more than 500 passengers. This ongoing product development effort ensures that Boeing is well positioned if customer demand and market requirements warrant moving forward.
