Boeing YUH-61
The Boeing Vertol Model 179/YUH-61, was a twin turbine-engine, medium-lift, military assault/utility helicopter. The YUH-61 was the runner-up in the United States Army Utility Tactical Transport Aircraft System (UTTAS) competition to replace the Bell UH-1 Iroquois helicopter. Three aircraft were built for the Army competition held in 1976. A 'navalized' version, the Model 237, was the runner-up in the Navy's LAMPS II competition for a ship-based multi-purpose helicopter. A fourth prototype, the Model 179 civil demonstrator that could carry between 14 and 20 passengers, was completed but the program was later cancelled. The Boeing Vertol cockpit design was unique in that the crew were seated in a laterally staggered tandem configuration. (Negative is in poor condition.
