DC-X Aeroshell is Lowered over Hydrogen Tank and Thrust Structure
Under a cooperative agreement with NASA, McDonnell Douglas integrated advanced technology components into the vertical-takeoff, vertical-landing DC-X rocket. The components included a McDonnell Douglas-built advanced composite liquid hydrogen tank and a Russian-built aluminum-lithium liquid oxygen tank. In addition, the cone-shaped vehicle utilized an advanced composite fuel feedline, fuel valve and an advanced composite intertank structure which connected the two tanks.
