The 747-100 revolutionized intercontinental air travel in the 1970s with its unmatched combination of size and range. The 747 was singled out as one of the most significant technological achievements of the 20th century by Amercians casting ballots as part of the "Celebrate The Century" stamp program to decide the most notable events, people and trends of the 20th century. On November 15, 1999 the U.S. Postal Service unveiled a 33-cent "Jumbo Jet" postage stamp commemorating the 747.
