On Sept. 24, 2007, The Boeing Company delivered the first production EA-18G Growler to the U.S. Navy ahead of schedule and within budget. The aircraft, dubbed G-1, was to join the flight test program at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, MD, before entering fleet service. Derived from the combat proven F/A-18F aircraft, the EA-18G incorporates advanced AEA avionics bringing transformational capability for suppression of enemy air defenses (SEAD) and integrated air/ground operations.
