The spacious flight deck of the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 trijet features six-abreast cathode ray tube displays for operational, naviation, engine and systems data. Automatic system controllers in the overhead panel monitor and configure fuel, hydraulic, electrical and environmental systems. Duel flight management systems (FMS) display units are shown in the forward center console with a third unit, which is also used by maintenance personnel to check the condition of flight deck systems, at the rear of the console. The FMS is designed for precise operation of the advanced, wide-cabin aircraft for maximum economy.
