T-45A Goshawk at Sunset
The two-seat T-45 Goshawk, a carrier-suitable version of the 1974 British Aerospace Hawk trainer, first flew in 1988. It is the centerpiece of the T45TS Training System, the first totally integrated training program for the U.S. Navy. It replaced the TA-4J Skyhawk for advanced jet pilot training and the T-2 Buckeye for intermediate training. The T-45C, with a digital cockpit, made its first flight in October 1997, and by 2002, more than 1,328 new aviators had earned their wings in the T-45. Boeing delivered the 221st and final T-45 training jet to the U.S. Navy in November 2009.
