A Boeing B-17G Awaits Modification at the Douglas-Tulsa Plant

The last version of the B-17 Flying Fortress was the B-17G. Produced in the greatest quantity, it included a two-gun power turret under the nose for defense against direct frontal attack. At an average cost of $238,329 per airplane, Boeing built 4,035 B-17Gs; Douglas 2,395; and Lockheed (Vega), 2,250.
