The Martin Model S seaplane was the first airplane designed by Donald Douglas. Douglas was hired by the Glenn Martin Company as its chief engineer when he was only 23 years old. The Model S could fly 72 miles an hour, set three world altitude records, and held the flight duration record for three years.
