Douglas R4D-8 on Tarmac

The R4D-8 was built on the airframe of the Super DC-3, which was a modifed DC-3 that offered great performance improvements over the standard DC-3. Douglas received a contract from the U.S. Navy to modify 100 R4Ds, older military versions of the DC-3, to the newer R4D-8 configuration.
