Woman Painting AJ-1 Savage

The AJ Savage bomber first flew July 3, 1948. It was the first U.S. bomber designed especially to carry the atomic bomb. It used two P&W R-2800 engines to turn four-bladed propellers for normal takeoff and cruise flight and a J33 turbojet for accelerated takeoff or bombing run-in. It carried a crew of three and had folding wings so that it could be stored on an aircraft carrier.
