The U. S. Air Force's Navstar Global Positioning System (GPS) is designed to instantaneously provide precise, three-dimensional navigation information to properly equipped military and civilian users under all weather conditions around the world. It consists of a constellation of orbiting satellites, a ground control system and thousands of GPS information receiver units.
