Technicians work on a Boeing Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) IIF in the Integration and Test Bay in El Segundo, California. Originally developed by the U.S. Department of Defense for all-weather military applications, the system now is utilized by drivers, hikers, pilots, boaters, surveyors and many others. In July 2006, the U.S. Air Force ordered three more GPS IIF satellites from Boeing, bringing the total order to 12.
