Loading a United Air Transport Ford Tri-Motor Mailplane

In 1927, Boeing won a contract for the air mail route between San Francisco and Chicago, and Boeing Air Transport (BAT) was formed as a subsidiary to carry the mail. Later, Boeing Air Transport would be merged with other airlines to create United Air Lines Transport Corporation.
