First Official Flight of an Armed CH-47A Helicopter at Boeing Vertol Flight Center, Philadelphia, PA
The roll-out and first official flight of the armed version of the U.S. Army CH-47A Chinook helicopter, was witnessed Nov. 11, 1965 by Department of Defense, U.S. Army and local government officials, at The Boeing Company's Vertol Division at Philadelphia International Airport. The armed Chinook with its wide array of weapons was closely inspected by persons attending the roll-out ceremony. The capabilities of the aircraft and its weapon systems were explained by U.S. Army and Boeing officials. The armed Chinook is shown in this image during a test flight. The armed Chinooks were evaluated by the U.S. Army at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland.
