Boeing Completes P-8A Poseidon Loads Calibration Testing Ahead of Schedule

During P-8A loads calibration testing in March of 2009, up to 80 percent of the highest expected flight loads were applied to the aircraft to simulate comparable loads that will occur during flight. This view shows the aircraft's wings flexed or "deflected" up approximately seven feet after loads were applied. Loads calibration is one of the prerequisites for the U.S. Navy flight clearance process, and Boeing completed the tests two weeks ahead of schedule. The Navy plans to purchase 108 P-8A long-range maritime reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare aircraft to replace its fleet of P-3Cs. Initial operational capability is slated for 2013.
