The 747-400X Quiet Longer Range jetliner was first offered to the world's airlines for delivery projected for early 2004. The new airplane would have highlighted significantly reduced noise on takeoff and approach with lower fuel consumption and longer range than previous models. Available in two versions, the passenger model featured the Boeing signature twin-aisle interior with more comfort and spaciousness for travelers. The freighter version featured a simplified cargo handling system that weighed less than previous models, provided lower maintenance costs and higher reliability.
