50th Anniversary Watercolor Paintings
About the Watercolors…
In July of 1959, Boeing Historical services began creating the Boeing Historical Watercolor Series to showcase the products of Boeing that span the years 1917-1959. Over the next six years, a host of illustrators representing all the divisions of Boeing produced this collection of works to commemorate Boeing’s 50thAnniversary in 1966. The enthusiasm of the artists led many of them to accomplish the work off hours.
These original works were previously displayed in the Boeing Archives, Boeing Headquarters and the Seattle Museum of History and Industry. The watercolor collection is part of the Long Bridge art collection located on the second floor of the Long Bridge building.
About the Artists
Over the years, The Boeing Company has relied on the talents of in house graphic artists, illustrators, model makers, and fine artists to create original artwork to use in presentations, technical manuals, and illustrations. These artists allowed Boeing to illustrate their future endeavors, enabled clients and contractors to be confident in their investments, and helped the general public to imagine the new American frontier in aviation.
With changes in technology, the creation of these materials now relies primarily on digital innovations, but the Boeing Historical Archives has maintained a resource of these original paintings, models, and information that allows us to honor and preserve this critical part of Boeing’s history for display in the Long Bridge Collection.
