Rollout of Final Boeing Seattle Built B-17 Flying Fortress
On April 9, 1945, the last B-17 Flying Fortress rolled off the assembly line at Boeing's Plant 2 in Seattle. It was the 6981st Seattle B-17. Another 5,745 were built under a nationwide collaborative effort by Douglas and Lockheed (Vega). An estimated 4,750 of these aircraft were lost in combat.
