With demand rising for the H-47 Chinook helicopter, a Boeing Shared Services Group-led team faced a monumental task: Upgrade Boeing’s historic 85-year-old industrial production complex in Philadelphia to a climate-controlled, state-of-the-art, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-certified factory to increase production and efficiency — all while maintaining operations.

Engineering News-Record (ENR) magazine recently named the team responsible for the project, dubbed the Focused Factory Project, a Best of the Best winner in the Manufacturing category. The award honors construction and design excellence for work completed in the United States between June 2013 and June 2014. It also recognized Boeing for conducting a well-executed project compared to similar projects around the country.
