Marvin Michael, Boeing Flight Test Engineer, 1943
Marvin Michael was a flight test engineer at Boeing in Seattle. He worked for Boeing from 1940 to 1972. Much of Marvin's work during WW II explored the aeronautical, physiological and psychological effects of high altitude flight in the B-17 Flying Fortress. During the Cold War, Marvin helped pioneer the development of air-to-air refueling technology using a rigid boom on B-29s and B-50s. For this work, he was honored with the Pathfinder Award in 1999 from the Museum of Flight in Seattle. Marvin's flying career extended into the jet age with the B-47 Stratojet.
