After Hurricane Mitch destroyed roads, bridges and other infrastructure in Honduras and other Central American nations in late 1998, U.S. Army CH-47D Chinooks provided a lifeline for thousands of people isolated in rural areas. The Chinooks carried tons of food, medical supplies and personnel and other materials throughout the region, making the difference between life and death for thousands of hurricane victims.
