U.S. Marine CH-46A Sea Knight Helicopters in Winter Training Excercises
United States Marine Corp's winter training exercise "Snowfex 65" at Camp Drum near Watertown, New York in 1965. "Snowfex" was a month long exercise in which Marine Corps units and equipment received extensive arctic training under severe winter conditions. Nineteen CH-46A Sea Knights from Squadron HMM-265 Marine Corps Air Facility at New River, North Carolina, were used to transport troops, cargo and vehicles during the operation. Shown above are three Sea Knights helicopters preparing to land and deliver troops during a mock battle exercise which concluded the month long operation. The Sea Knights flew missions in temperatures thirty degrees below zero and during snow storms.
The U.S. Marine Corps retired the CH-46 Sea Knight in August 2015.
