A U.S. Army CH-47A Chinook, carrying a damaged "Huey," heads inland from the South China Sea in Vietnam towards the U.S. Supply and Helicopter Base near Vung Tau in 1966. Aircraft as large as the fixed-wing Caribou were recovered by the Chinook in Vietnam. As of April 30, 1966, Chinooks had recovered 328 downed aircraft that reflected a cost savings of $75 million.
