Navy T-28 Trojan on Flight Ramp

The success of North American Aviation’s T-6 Texan Trainers led to the development of the the T-28 Trojan. The T-28 first flew in 1949. While the first prototype, the XSN2J-1, had tail dragger style landing gear like the Texan Trainers, subsequent variations had tricycle-type landing gear. The T-28 was the first trainer designed to transition pilots to jet aircraft. The Navy ordered 792 T-28s, 299 of which included an arrester hook for carrier landings. The T-28B and T-28C could handle accessory kits providing for bombs, rockets, and machine guns.
