F-15E Strike Eagles from Alaska's 90th Fighter Squadron
F-15E Strike Eagle (1986 - ) is the world's most capable multi-mission fighter, and will be in service with the U.S. Air Force well into the 21st century. The F-15E carries up to 23,000 pounds of air-to-ground weapons, more than any other tactical fighter. It also has the air-to-air dog fighting capability of the original F-15. The dual-role Strike Eagle first flew on December 11, 1986, from McDonnell Douglas facilities at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport. The F-15E has two crewmembers: a pilot and a weapons system officer. Its high-technology navigation and targeting system allows the plane to be flown at high speeds and low altitudes, at night and in bad weather, to hit ground targets with pinpoint precision. Its air-to-air weapons include the latest radar guided and heat-seeking missiles, plus a six-barrel 20mm cannon with 940 rounds of ammunition.
