T-43A Cargo Trainer over Mt. Rainier, tail 11403
T-43 Cargo Trainer (737-200) in Flight over Mt. Rainier(tail 11403). The Department of the Air Force trains navigators for all Department of Defense elements. The Aerial Navigation Training School at Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, provides both basic navigation and advanced systems training utilizing an academic combination of flight and ground simulator training. Flight training academics are accomplished using specially modified Boeing 737-200 aircraft -- designated the T-43 by the U.S. Air Force. For the past 24 years, flying training curriculum has been based on the Boeing 737-200 military derivative. The T-43 provides an over-the-shoulder flying classroom and a real-time flight training environment using the same on-board navigation systems that are utilized by navigators in the most advanced operational aircraft. These systems include celestial, inertial radar and radio navigation systems. The T-43 on-board systems are used to train navigators for operational flying organizations and to orient Air Force Academy cadets to the operational flight environment. The T-43 aircraft used for U.S. Southern Command special airlift missions have been specially modified for that unique mission.
