Boeing 747-8F Main Cargo Floor
On February 8, 2010, the first 747-8 Freighter took its inaugural flight. For the next year and half, RC501, along with four other test planes, would fly thousands of hours, and around the world, to complete the rigorous requirements of certification flight testing. But the hard work, the long hours and the numerous challenges of flight test came to end on August 2, 2011, when RC523 landed at Paine Field in Everett, Wash., finishing the last function and reliability test. The 747-8 Freighter is longer than the 747-400F by 5.6 m (18.3 ft) and has a maximum structural payload capability of 140 metric tonnes (154 tons) with a range of 8,130 km (4,390 nmi). The additional 120 cu m (4,245 cu ft) of volume means the airplane can accommodate four additional main-deck pallets and three additional lower-hold pallets. Also powered by 787-technology engines, it achieves the same environmental benefits as the 747-8 Intercontinental.
