C-17 Globemaster III on the Tarmac

The C-17 Globemaster III can deliver heavy cargo loads over long distances and land on short, unimproved runways close to front lines. Deployed in June 1993, it won the Collier Trophy in 1994. It supported peacekeeping in Bosnia, Operation Allied Force in Kosovo, and the War on Terrorism in Afghanistan. During 2001, U.S. Air Force C-17s also flew more than 200 humanitarian missions, dropping more than 2.4 million ration packages.
