The U.S. Army and Navy gave E Awards to defense industries that exceeded production quotas during WWII. A special pennant was flown at factories that had won E Awards. Every time a new production quota was exceeded, a star was added to the pennant flown at the factory. Each employee who worked at the plant at the time an E Award was given would receive a special pin to honor their contribution to the achievement.
