A total of 820 KC-135s were built: 732 as aerial tankers and 88 modified for special purposes. Nearly 500 remain in service. The Boeing Global Services and Support in San Antonio, Texas, was established in 1998 to provide an affordable, high-quality, short cycle-time maintenance and modification center for large aircraft.
