Syncom, the First Geosynchronous Communications Satellite
As early as 1945, English scientist and writer Arthur C. Clarke postulated that three spacecraft set equidistant in synchronous orbit could virtually blanket the planet with continuous radio and television coverage. The 1963 launch of Syncom, the world's first geosynchronous communications satellite, was the first step in making Clarke's theory become a reality.
