PAS-1R 702 Satellite in Assembly

Technicians at Boeing Satellite Systems, Inc. (BSS) complete the installation of solar wings onto PAS-1R, the Boeing 702 satellite which is scheduled to launch in November 2000. PAS-1R carries twice the capacity of PAS-1, the communications satellite it is replacing. To support that capacity, the new spacecraft employs two solar wings, each with five panels of dual-junction gallium arsenide solar cells and will have 14.3kW of spacecraft power at end of life. PAS-1R will deliver video, data and Internet services to the Americas, Europe and Africa from its orbital position of 45 degrees West.
