Sea-Based X-Band Radar (SBX) Platform Transported by the Blue Marlin
The Sea-Based X-Band Radar and platform are loaded and secured aboard the Motor Vessel Blue Marlin, a semi-submersible, heavy-transport vessel, in the Kiewit Shipyard, Corpus Christi, TX. The SBX will transit the Pacific Ocean powered by the Blue Marlin headed for its homeport in Adak, Alaska. A major sensor for the Missile Defense Agency's ground-based midcourse defense program (GMD), the Sea-Based X-Band Radar (SBX) will provide the capability to track ballistic missiles and their warheads, discriminate among various objects in flight, and provide data for intercepting targets and their destruction.
