In the mid 1990s, McDonnell Douglas studied the feasibility of the High Speed Civil Transport (HSCT) in conjunction with NASA. The proposed aircraft would cruise at mach 2.4, enabling it to deliver 300 passengers from Los Angeles to Tokyo in about five hours.
