717-200 on its First Flight

On Sept. 1, 1999, the Boeing 717-200 received its single-basis certification from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA), using an unprecedented concurrent and cooperative process – a major breakthrough in streamlining the complex world of regulatory oversight. The certification came just one day shy of the anniversary of the 717 first flight on Sept. 2, 1998.
