Close Encounter
The B-17F, "All American," was shot in the tail by a German Messerschmitt Bf 109F while flying over Bizerte, Tunisia during WWII. The B-17F managed to fly 1 1/2 hours with a large section of her tail missing back to an allied air base. The pilot, Lt. Kenneth Bragg, held the control columns full forward and used the autopilot to get the aircraft home.
