Picnic on Camuoflaged Plant II Roof

These Boeing-Seattle employees appear to be enjoying an afternoon of leisure at a vacation resort. Actually, the setting is part of the 26-acre make-believe village that was constructed on top of Boeing Plant II in Seattle. Cottages were made of painted canvas, trees were constructed of wire mesh and wood covered with chicken feathers, and the lawn was actually green burlap. The Wonderland city provided a wartime cover for the plant during WWII and was dismantled in 1946.
