314 Clipper Engineer's Instrument Panel

The whale-shaped Boeing Model 314 flying boat took cruise ship elegance into the air. Luxurious amenities aboard the Clipper included a stylish lounge, a dining salon, and a bridal suite. At 106 feet long with a 152-foot wingspan, it was the largest passenger transport in its time. At night, 74 seats converted into 40 bunks. It first flew in 1938 and on June 28, 1939, made the first scheduled transatlantic flight. In 1943, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt celebrated his birthday on a Model 314 airplane, flying to Casablanca and back, becoming the first U.S. president to fly while in office.
