Gar 1B Missile Installation on F-86D Sabre Jet

The North American F-86 Sabre Jet made its first flight Oct. 1, 1947, and was America’s first single-seat, swept-wing jet fighter. In 1948, it set a new world speed record of 671 mph, and it was the world’s first-line fighter for more than a decade after it was designed. More than 6,000 Sabre Jets were built worldwide. During the Korean conflict, the Sabre Jet flew 82,177 sorties during 32 months of combat and troop support. The version built for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps was called the FJ-2 Fury.
