First BBJ 3 Fuselage in Spirit Aerosystems Factory
In May 2008, Boeing and Spirit AeroSystems began work on the first Boeing Business Jet 3 (BBJ 3), a new, longer-range jet based on the Next-Generation 737-900ER (extended range), which entered commercial service in 2007. Employees at Spirit AeroSystems in Wichita, Kansas place body sections into an aligning fixture that allows them to join the sections into a complete fuselage. Spirit will then load the fuselage onto a rail car for its 2,000-mile, eight-day trip to Boeing's Renton, Washington, Next-Generation 737 final assembly facility.
