Tuskegee Airmen P-51D Mustangs in Flight

The Tuskegee Airmen of the 99th Fighter Squadron flew P-51 Mustangs to escort and protect bombers during missions over hostile territory in WWII.

This image was one of the illustrations featured on the Boeing Store 2003 calendar entitled, "The Art of Flying," commemorating the 100th anniversary of powered flight. It featured the work of Boeing artists who recorded the excitement and adventure of the journey of powered flight over the past century, including R. G. Smith, Chuck Wood (whose work is shown here) and John Amendola.
